At Foundry Day 2026 in Göttingen, representatives from industry, politics and science discussed the future and current challenges facing Germany as an industrial location. High energy prices, bureaucracy, rising labour costs and structural changes are putting pressure on the industry. At the same time, the foundry industry remains highly important for numerous future-oriented sectors. The scrap market is also facing challenging conditions: low water levels, rising transport costs and difficulties in rail transport are creating additional logistical burdens. Despite these challenges, the German scrap market remained largely stable in September, with prices mostly unchanged.
