(A)SR Advanced

Maximizing metal recovery

With (A)SR Advanced, non-ferrous metals can be separated from shredder residue even more efficiently. (A)SR Advanced is the logical extension of the Zorba separation process in the (A)SR Basic system and marks the first step toward complete metal recovery.

Stainless steel, copper strands/cables, and circuit boards are completely separated with the goal of producing a metal-free waste fraction.

Fully automatically (i.e., without any manual sorting), the shredder residues pass through the following processing steps in sequence:

  • Ferrous and non-ferrous metal separation (EddyPro eddy current separation)
  • FinesTuning®
  • Air separation (Airsort®)
  • Sensor-based sorting using a tiered system of sensor sorters with a working width of up to 2800 mm. A wide range of proven sensors is available:

M-Sensor: The proven induction sensor that detects all metals down to a particle size of <1 mm.

M+ Sensor: A special sensor for the selective detection of stainless steel and cables (without camera). Ideal for particle sizes of approx. 20 mm and larger.

CM / CM Sensor: Combines high-performance camera technology that detects cables and cable strands in real time at the discharge point based on brand, color, and metal signal.

CAI / CMAI: The next step in camera technology. Compared to the CM sensor, state-of-the-art AI technology further improves the separation results.

Optionally, a material pulverization unit can be integrated into the (A)SR Advanced+ system, further improving the system’s efficiency. Using the EcoShred® Libtec, shredder residues are reduced to approximately < 50 mm and pulverized. The EcoShred® Libtec is a reversible hammer mill specifically developed for (A)SR processing. A distinctive feature is the impact bar, which can be adjusted from the outside, ensuring that the shredding takes place at this point and not, as with conventional hammer mills, on the screen basket—which would result in correspondingly high wear and the generation of unwanted fine particles.

For further processing of Zorba, SICON can integrate additional state-of-the-art sensor sorting technologies:

XT: Using X-ray transmission technology, metal mixtures are separated by density, typically into heavy and light metals, with the light metals further divided into cast aluminum and sheet aluminum. In a special configuration, chlorine-rich plastics can also be separated from the AS plastic fraction of the (A)SR Advanced+ to produce a substitute fuel for thermal or metallurgical recycling.

CXT: X-ray transmission technology is supplemented by a camera system. This allows density detection to be enhanced with optical recognition capabilities and integrated into a customer-specific sorting algorithm.

CAIXT: The camera technology is state-of-the-art and is backed by an AI model, enabling entirely new sorting options and combinations.

XRF: With X-ray fluorescence technology, heavy metals can be reliably separated into predefined fractions, whether lead, zinc, copper, or tin. SICON’s XRF technology sets a new standard!

LIBS: SICON was among the pioneers in the use of “Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy” for the pure separation of aluminum, as well as heavy metals.

Regardless of which variant is implemented, (A)SR Advanced or (A)SR Advanced+, both systems feature processing units that are optimally coordinated with one another. A system that simply fits, ensuring that marketable end products are produced in the end. SICON does not design a process around a machine; rather, each machine is designed to fulfill a specific function. This is what ultimately makes the decisive difference.

The (A)SR Advanced from SICON is the start into complete (A)SR recycling.
